The Bandstand Story

Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia, is famous for the churches that greet visitors as they enter the town. Imagine the excitement on the Mahone Bay waterfront on May 9, 1996, when Acorn Timber Frames (now TimberhArt Woodworks) built and raised the town's new octagonal bandstand.

Raise the Roof !
With the help of a team of oxen and a 35-ton crane from Lunenburg Foundry, the roof, which had been pre-assembled and shingled on the ground, was lifted to the top of the frame in the same breathtaking fashion as the timber frame dome atop Saint George's Round Church in Halifax.

Hand carvings decorate the inside of the cupola. The natural beauty of the wood remains visible, as does the method of construction and durability.

Our "Crown Jewel"
"The design work and craftsmanship displayed by Acorn Timber Frames (now TimberhArt Woodworks) in building our bandstand was outstanding. Our bandstand is now considered the 'crown jewel' along the Mahone Bay waterfront," wrote Derrick MacKenzie, the town's Director of Parks and Recreation.

The bandstand will be an added attraction for generations of tourists and a focal point for the town's festivities. It helps to preserve the heritage of fine woodworking skills celebrated in the town's annual Wooden Boat Festival, and displayed in the area's architecture. It is truly a gift by the town to residents and visitors.

The design work and craftsmanship displayed by Acorn Timber Frames (now TimberhArt Woodworks) in building our bandstand was outstanding.

Not only did Acorn Timber Frames (now TimberhArt Woodworks) surpass our expectations in designing and constructing a durable and attractive structure, we found them to be very accommodating and co-operative throughout all aspects of the project.

It was apparent that Mr. Reagan has a strong commitment to the art of past post and beam construction and is extremely knowledgeable and caring about the product he delivers.

I must state that Unique and Heritage Timber Frames (now TimberhArt Woodworks) comes highly recommended by the Town of Mahone Bay, and I am sure that any projects undertaken by this company will be built with the same care, devotion and craftsmanship as was displayed in the construction of our bandstand.
